January 4th 2014:  I was up early and headed to the Alton area with the intent of trying to get some Bald Eagle photos yesterday morning. I did not go with the intent of looking for a sunrise photo as I have many good sunrise photos from this area and it was 0 degrees with a stiff wind blowing. But when I stopped on the road underneath the Clark Bridge on the Missouri side of the river, this scene was unfolding and I could not resist.

"Trumpeters In The Mist"

I took this photo at sunrise yesterday morning. 0 degrees f. with a stiff breeze driving the wind chill down farther. This very large flock of Trumpeter Swans was huddled in a large flock far out in the backwater area of Riverlands Bird Sanctuary. The cold weather was creating a misty steam coming off the open water they were in surrounded by the ice.

Redbirds have competition!

I had loaded up my feeders before the big storm hit yesterday, and the amount of birds fighting to get to it to feed was amazing. So I did some bird photos in the snow from my back porch. I ended up with between 12-14 inches when it finished. Scott Evers Photography!

"Here Comes Trouble"

This is a continuation of a series of action photos I took last February where several eagles were fighting over a scrap of fish. It was about 3 degrees with a very stiff wind, light snow falling, terribly overcast, flat light, thus making it pretty miserable to be outside. Here a third mature Bald Eagle is dropping in on the other two that had just separated from a skirmish. I loved the way they were looking up at him waiting for another battle to start. A very large seagull is also hovering around hoping to grab the fish when they get distracted. — at Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary.
